Marshal A. Nesamony was a political leader from Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu. He was born on 12-06-1895 at Nesarpuram in Vilavancode Taluk, Kanyakumari District. He graduated from Maharaja's College, Trivandrum, and studied law at Law College, Thiruvananthapuram. He started his Legal Profession in 1921. He was one of the prominent leaders who was instrumental for merging four Taluks from Southern Travancore to Tamil Nadu. Due to his efforts, the Tamil speaking majority population of the area addressed him as Nesamani Rasa (King Nesamani).

Political career

He was a Member of Parliament elected from Tamil Nadu. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Nagercoil constituency as an Indian National Congress candidate in 1951, 1962 and 1967 elections.

He was also a Member of the Legislative Assembly. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly as an Indian National Congress candidate from Killiyur constituency in 1957 election.[4]
Kanyakumari district merger with Tamil Nadu

He, along with P. Thanulinga Nadar, was instrumental in the merger of Kanyakumari district with Tamil Nadu in 1956 during the linguistic reorganisation of states.
Rivalry

Nesamony was a devout Christian. In the early 1950s, divisions flared up between rival factions of the Tamil Nadu Congress led by Nesamony and Thanulinga Nadar leading to K. Kamaraj's intervention to pacify the two groups.

Nesamony died in 1968 while serving as a member in the Lok Sabha which led to the by-election in Nagercoil constituency in 1969 which was won by Kamaraj.

Nesamony Memorial Christian College was founded in his memory.
